Southwest Florida could gain from StartUp Visa Act, lawyer saysWhile the EB-5 visa program has been supporting local economies in the U.S. since its inception in 1990, a Florida immigration attorney is now saying that an expansion of the measures of the existing investor visa under the proposed StartUp Visa Act of 2010 would provided an added spark to the commercial markets in some areas.

Specifically, Norma Henning, who works at a law firm in Naples, Florida, has said that Southwest Florida in particular can benefit from the immigration plan, News-Press.com reports.

“This new act is geared toward the high-tech industries,” Henning explained to the news provider.

She added, “What makes this different from the EB-5 visa is that it requires the business concept to be so good and viable that an American – an angel investor or a venture capitalist – would want to put money into it.”

After two years, the foreign entrepreneur would become a permanent U.S. resident if his or her company has produced at least five jobs and has generated at least $1 million in investments or revenue.

“I think it’s a win-win situation, for the United States and for the investor,” Henning concluded.
