EB-5 benefits both investors and U.S. business
While the benefits of the EB-5 visa program for both American businesses and foreign investors are well documented there are a number of people and organizations who are not so sure about the program.
One such organization is the Washington, DC-based Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), according to the Lansing State Journal.
The EB-5 visa program allows foreign nationals to become eligible for U.S. green cards if they invest $1 million in an American business and that investment leads to the creation or preservation of 10 jobs.
One of FAIR’s concerns with the EB-5 visa program is that it believes the initiative allows foreign nationals to simply buy a U.S. green card.
“If people want to invest here because they see it as a good opportunity to make money, that’s certainly fine,” FAIR’s spokesman Ira Mehlman told the news source. “We ought not to have policies that allow people to buy their way into the country.”
However, the EB-5 visa program only allows investors to become eligible for green cards. There is still an application process that ensures no one is entering the country who shouldn’t be.
While such fears over immigration will likely always exist, the EB-5 visa program still offers foreign nationals a chance to live in America and U.S. businesses a chance to obtain much needed capital.
