How Do I Know if My EB-5 Consultant is Independent?

Consultants have played a great role for many foreign investors seeking to obtain a green card through the EB-5 investment visa program.  Many applicants as well as Immigration Attorneys can find the EB-5 program to be rather complicated because of its many requirements.  Therefore, most EB-5 investors prefer to consult an EB-5 expert before making their choice of what EB-5 project may be most appropriate for their consideration.

When searching for an EB-5 Consultant it is only natural for a client to be concerned if the consultant will provide independent and impartial advice.  Considering everything that goes into researching prospective Projects and EB-5 Regional Centers there are several things to look at before hiring an EB-5 consultant.

First of all have the initial conversation with the company that presents itself as an independent consultant, request their Investor Consultant Agreement for review and see if they are ready to provide you with information on several projects rather than just one or two.

Secondly, you should see how transparent the EB-5 consultants are about what they are doing.  All EB-5 consulting companies have some type of relationship built with various Regional Centers.  It would be difficult to believe that any company that has worked with a particular Regional Center over the years has not developed some form of personal relationship with the Principles of the respective Regional Center and the Projects that they offer.  After all it is only natural to build such relationships over time.  Most Regional Centers do not disclose any information beyond marketing materials, unless they trust the company that provides advice to prospective investors.
