Entrepreneurs from China utilizing the EB-5 visa program
Over the past few years, many families from China have emigrated to the U.S. mainly to take advantage of the educational system, the Beijing Review reports.
Many of these wealthy Chinese have emigrated to America thanks to the EB-5 visa program, which allows foreign investors to obtain U.S. green card eligibility. Foreigners can obtain such eligibility through the program by making an investment of $1 million (or $500,000 in some areas) in an American company or project that creates or maintains at least 10 full-time jobs.
According to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Chinese investors obtained the most green cards through the EB-5 visa program in 2009 with 1,979.
For many wealthy Chinese, the EB-5 investment represents the most convenient way to obtain green card eligibility, which enables them to live in the U.S., according to the news provider.
According to the USCIS, the two ways that potential investors can utilize the EB-5 visa program are "creating a new commercial enterprise or investing in a troubled business."
