According to the report that was released by USCIS after the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program Stakeholder Meeting in California on March 17, there were 125 approved EB-5 Regional Centers (RCs), operating in 36 states, including the District of Columbia and Guam. However, according to the USCIS website, as of today this number has increased up to 133 approved Regional Centers.

Throughout the last year (2010) there were a total of 1,885 EB-5 visas issued. As of the first quarter of 2011 the USCIS reports that more than 700 applications for conditional green cards (I-526 applications) have been filed.

One of the regular concerns we receive from our clients is regarding the amount of time it will take for USCIS to process these applications and it is important to understand that the timeframes for adjudication can vary and has increased over the last year, especially considering the increased popularity of the EB-5 program from prospective investors around the world.

Another interesting fact is that the USCIS report states that more than 90% of the individual Form I-526 petitions filed each year are filed by Alien Investors who are investing in RC-affiliated commercial enterprises as compared to a “Direct EB-5 Project”.

Despite the fact that there is currently over 130 approved Regional Centers, not all of them have active EB-5 projects and out of those that have active projects not all are what would be considered “secure” and some can be considered “speculative”.

For the typical foreign investor even the brief amount of information we have provided here can at times present difficulty to obtain and in some cases could be presented from a biased provider.  It is critical to obtain your facts and data from an impartial source and a company that has helped people just like you from more than 20 countries around the world over since 2007.
