New minority advisory council member pushes EB-5 visa programPurnima Voria, the founder and CEO of the Denver-based National United States India Chamber of Commerce, was recently named to a new National Advisory Council for Minority Business Enterprises, reports Rediff Business, an India-based news site.

Voria, who was appointed to the new position by Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, said that utilizing the federal EB-5 visa program to bring foreign funding from India to the U.S. would be beneficial for America.

"I would be very interested in supporting the President's agenda of increasing exports to India, encouraging Indian business leaders to set up manufacturing plants in the United States to create jobs for our citizens and encouraging Indians to participate in the President's EB-5 initiative," Voria said.

Through the EB-5 visa program, foreign nationals can obtain U.S. green card eligibility by making an investment of $1 million (or $500,000 in some areas) in an American company or project that either creates or maintains at least 10 full-time jobs.

According to the news source, the National Advisory Council is the first of its kind that is focused on the promotion of the minority business community.
