Ohio development group praises EB-5 visa program for job creation
Jon Ansel, the president of the warehouse management company D+S Distribution, was named the winner of this year’s Excellence in Economic Development Award, for his assistance in bolstering the Ohio economy during the past year.
The award, which was presented to Ansel during a meeting of the Wayne Economic Development Council (WEDC) in Wooster, Ohio, was given to honor D+S Distribution for their support during economic downturn, the Daily Record reports.
Tuesday’s meeting and ceremony also gave WEDC members, business leaders and government officials a chance to review their efforts over the past 12 months to weather the economic storm.
Among the highlights, Rod Crider mentioned the establishment of an EB-5 green card office to draw investment opportunities in Ohio.
The EB-5 office now acts as a funding arm for the BioHio Research Park in Wooster.
“Wayne County is already finding opportunities in an unprecedented economy as we begin to bounce back,” Lisa Patt-McDaniel, director of the Ohio Department of Development, told the news source.
Last fall, members of the Wooster development board traveled to Washington DC to lobby for the extension of the EB-5 visa program, noting its potential for job creation.
