EB-5 Investment and Regional Center Development Seminar Announced for Las Vegas
Experts from a range of disciplines will address “EB-5 Investment and Regional Center Development” at a Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, seminar in Las Vegas, McAdam & McCarthy Attorneys at Law announced today. Also known as the Immigrant Investor Program, EB-5 was created by Congress in 1990 to stimulate the U.S. economy through job creation and capital investment. Immigrant investors create a new commercial enterprise or invest in a troubled business, and high net worth overseas investors get an available and expedient green card option. More than $2.5 billion has been invested in American enterprises through EB-5 in the last five years, creating tens of thousands of new jobs for U.S. workers.
The seminar will provide timely and accessible information to professionals who are experienced with EB-5 and to those who are new to the program, including:
- Immigration attorneys: The EB-5 program is a highly beneficial permanent residence option for the wealthy individual.
- Businesses considering EB-5 capital: Given the current condition of the credit market, the EB-5 program may be the answer for businesses without traditional capital options.
- Those wishing to establish EB-5 Regional Centers: More than 90 percent of EB-5 investment is conducted through federally approved Regional Centers.
- Existing EB-5 Regional Centers: The seminar will address developing a project through a Regional Center, properly setting up escrow accounts, drafting USCIS-compliant business plans, Regional Center administration and structuring an EB-5 enterprise.
“Congress created a win-win-win when they established the EB-5 program. We’ve seen cities and regions benefit from new job creation, businesses obtain capital to expand, and foreign investors find paths to immigration,” said Joseph C. McCarthy, an immigration attorney speaking at the seminar. “Every day we learn more about the EB-5 program. This seminar will help more people access the benefits of EB-5.”
Presenters include:
- Joseph C. McCarthy, an immigration attorney with the law firm of McAdam & McCarthy. McCarthy has successfully represented more than a dozen Regional Centers, is a member of the American Immigration Law Association and serves as the Legislative Committee Chair with Invest in USA (IIUSA), a national trade association of EB-5 Regional Centers.
- Kevin Wright, an economist with the consulting firm Wright Johnson, LLC based in West Palm Beach, Florida. Considered one of the nation’s foremost experts on the EB-5 program, Wright has prepared economic analyses for Regional Center proposals and individual business projects.
- Michael Homeier and Jor Law, partners with corporate law firm Homeier & Law. Homeier & Law has assisted multiple EB-5 Regional Centers in structuring EB-5 enterprises, drafting the required offering memoranda, and preparing their business for EB-5 investment. Homeier and Law have presented at EB-5 conferences held by the American Immigration Law Association, State Bar of California and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
- Suzanne Lazicki, founder of Lucid Professional Writing, a service specializing in business plans for filing in connection with the EB-5, L-1, and E-2 visa programs. Lazicki has worked with Regional Centers around the U.S. and has prepared business plans for industries ranging from real estate and green energy to manufacturing and agriculture.
- Brian Terwilliger, a vice president of business development at NES Financial specializing in complex multiparty escrows. Terwilliger has assisted EB-5 Regional Centers with the transfer of foreign investment to local projects in accordance with USCIS standards.
- Mina Tran, partner with the firm of Palmer & Tran in Orange County, California. With more than 14 years of immigration law experience, Tran will address what an EB-5 Regional Center needs to know about the individual investor visa process.
- Fred Burgess and Joe Sloboda of Exclusive Visas, a firm representing foreign nationals seeking permanent U.S. residency through the EB-5 program. With offices in the U.S. and China, Exclusive Visas has consulted with clients from more than 30 countries. In the last year, the Exclusive Visas team traveled to China, Korea, Vietnam, Latin America and Europe to assist foreign nationals with EB-5 visas.
- George W. Ekins, principal of American Dream Fund (ADF), the Los Angeles and Las Vegas Regional Center. Ekins, who represents ADF in Asia, recently completed a 25-city marketing tour to build relationships with immigration brokers, immigration consultants, business leaders, government officials and EB-5 investors in China.
