Colorado Democrats block Arizona-style immigration proposalDemocrats from Colorado recently blocked a proposal that would have authorized law enforcement officials to arrest people who they suspected were in the U.S. without proper documentation, the Aspen Times reports.

The opponents of the bill cited the inevitability of expensive court cases and potential racial profiling stemming from the new legislation, according to the news provider.

"It is a license for an individual to arrest somebody without a warrant," Democratic Senator Bob Bacon said of the bill.

However, the sponsor of the proposed bill, Republican Senator Kent Lambert, argued that the legislation was a way to enable law enforcement officials to enforce current laws, adding that the bill "is not a racial profiling authorization."

According to the news source, the proposal was killed by the State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee by a 3-2 vote on party lines.

Despite the potential enactment of strict immigration enforcement legislation across the country, foreign nationals have an opportunity to obtain U.S. green card eligibility through the federal EB-5 visa program by investing $1 million (or $500,000 in some areas) in an American company that either maintains or creates at least 10 full-time jobs.
