Florida Agriculture Commissioner says state can't simply copy Arizona immigration lawFlorida's Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam said recently that the state cannot simply "cut and paste" Arizona's controversial immigration law, which allows authorities to verify the legal status of those detained, Tallahassee.com reports.

Instead, Putnam argued that a national solution that included better border control and a more reliable program for temporary workers was needed for states struggling with illegal immigration.

During his campaign last year, Florida Governor Rick Scott reportedly promised to bring an Arizona-like immigration law to the state, but a number of agricultural businesses have expressed concern that such strict regulations would not leave them with enough workers to harvest their crops, according to the news source.

Putnam added that because Florida is not a border state like Arizona, its immigration problems are different.

Despite the possibility of the implementation of stricter immigration laws, foreign nationals seeking U.S. green card eligibility can do so through the federal EB-5 visa program. Through that program, foreigners can secure the eligibility by investing $1 million (or in some areas $500,000) in an American project or company that creates or maintains at least 10 full-time jobs.
