Georgia lawmaker plans to file strict immigration billA Georgia lawmaker is reportedly planning to file a strict immigration law that would have some similarities to the controversial Arizona law that was implemented last year, The Associated Press reports.

Representative Matt Ramsey, a Republican from Peachtree City, Georgia, said he is planning to file the new bill this week, according to the news provider.

One aspect of the potential new law would require law enforcement officials to attempt to determine a suspect's immigration status if the officer "develops reasonable suspicion" that the person in question is an undocumented immigrant.

The AP reports that the bill would also penalize anyone who encourages illegal immigrants to come to the state or anyone who hides or transports them once they enter Georgia.

Whether or not tough immigration laws such as these are implemented across the country, foreigners still have an opportunity to reside in the U.S. legally by obtaining U.S. green card eligibility through the federal EB-5 visa program. Foreign nationals can obtain such eligibility by investing $1 million (or $500,000 in some areas) in an American project or company that either creates or maintains at least 10 full-time jobs.

  1. It is about time that we as a state tighten up on immigration! I am excited that our Matt Ramsey is able to work on this bill and hopefully it will pass!
