Indiana panel approves stricter immigration enforcement billAn Indiana Senate Committee recently approved an immigration enforcement bill that its sponsor says would be similar to Arizona's controversial legislation, The Associated Press reports.

According to the news provider, the State Pensions and Labor Committee voted 8-1 to continue to advance the proposal, which many people criticized during a lengthy public hearing recently.

Opponents of the bill, which was proposed by Republican Senator Mike Delph, claim that it could lead to racial profiling. The legislation would reportedly require police to ask for a person's immigration status if they reasonably suspected that the person was undocumented, according to the news source.

"We say 'no more' to illegal immigration," Delph told the Senate Committee. "We want the rule of law restored, period."

Foreigners looking to obtain U.S. green card eligibility still have an opportunity to do so through the EB-5 visa program, which requires them to invest $1 million (or $500,000 in some areas) in an American project or company that either maintains or creates at least 10 full-time jobs.
