Popularity of investor visas grows among Mexicans
While most foreign investors pursue the EB-5 visa program and other investor visa initiatives to chase down a potentially lucrative investment opportunity, others are simply looking to gain access to the American way of life.
One investor from Mexico City, Pierre Gama, was determined to move to the U.S. after he evaded kidnappers in his hometown for the fourth time, the Christian Science Monitor reports.
The security entrepreneur was able to bring his family across the border by investing in a San Antonia restaurant and catering business.
In addition to EB-5 investment opportunities, Mexican citizens can take advantage of other investor visas such as the E-1 and E-2 visas.
In fiscal year 2008, the U.S. issued investor visas to about 1,900 Mexicans and their families, which is almost three times the number for the entire preceding decade, says the news source.
As more Mexicans make the move, job creation in the U.S. may immediately result.
Irene Kegan, executive director of the Mexican Business Association in San Antonio, told the news source, “The misfortune for Mexico is the fortune for the U.S.”
Through the EB-5 visa program, immigrants from around the world can invest at least $500,000 in a U.S. business in exchange for a green card.
