San Antonio sees influx of investors, entrepreneurs from Mexico
It appears that San Antonio is the latest city to benefit from the growing demand of investment visas, such as the EB-5, among Mexicans looking to escape the violence and civil unrest of their homeland.
On Wednesday, March 10, at least 160 Mexican business owners will be gathering at a hotel in Monterrey, Mexico, to attend a seminar that will discuss the legal requirements, financial resources, and immigration opportunities to establish a presence in the U.S. market, My SA Business reports.
The investment visas, which reward job creation in the U.S. with an expedited immigration process, resulting in permanent residency, are increasingly popular among Mexican citizens.
The E-2 and EB-5 visas are designed for foreign investors, while the E1 and E2 are designated for entrepreneurs who can create jobs in the U.S. economy.
Jorge Gonzalez, a native of Mexico who teaches economics at Trinity University, told the news source, “This is a tremendous plus for San Antonio. The city is receiving an influx of capital and an influx of human capital.”
He added that the local economy benefits from perceptions of San Antonio as “the most Mexican of the American cities.”
In 2008, almost 2,000 visas were issued to Mexican entrepreneurs, according to the U.S. State Department.
