Schwarzenegger answers questions on immigration reformImmigration reform has been on almost every politician’s mind as the Obama administration has spoken about changing federal immigration policy and Arizona prepares to begin enforcement of its controversial immigration laws.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was recently asked about immigration at a town hall style meeting in Fresno, California, according to KMPH, a Fox affiliate. The former body-builder turned movie star turned lawmaker gave his take on the issue.

Schwarzenegger said that if the country is going to tackle the tough issue of immigration reform then it should do it right, according to the news source. He also said it is a problem that people are patted down at the airport but nothing is done to prevent people from crossing the border.

Arizona’s recently passed immigration law makes it a crime for immigrants to be in the country illegally, making it the first state to enact such a provision. In addition, the law requires local police officials to inquire about a person’s immigration status if they believe that they the individual is in the country illegally.

Many are hoping that when immigration reform is passed, it is as successful as the EB-5 visa program, which allows foreign nationals to earn U.S. green cards by investing in American businesses.
