Several immigration reform bills passed in VirginiaThe Virginia House of Delegates recently finalized approval for a number of bills that will create stricter immigration policies throughout the state, the Washington Post reports.

According to the news provider, one of the bills contains a measure that would require all local and state law enforcement authorities to determine the immigration status of anyone they arrest.

"My thoughts are I regret that this is what it's come to," Republican Delegate Scott Lingamfelter, who sponsored the controversial measure, told the news source. "I regret that the federal government has been so derelict in their duty that they have not enforced the laws of our land."

However, the Virginia Coalition of Latino Organizations (VACOLAO) expressed concern that the most controversial aspect of the new legislation went even further than Arizona's new law, which has received tremendous scrutiny.

"It's worse in one respect because it's entirely subjective," said VACOLAO lobbyist Claire Guthrie Gastanaga.

Regardless of the passing of such legislation, foreign nationals still have an opportunity to obtain a green card through the federal EB-5 visa program, which requires them to invest $1 million (or $500,000 in some areas) in an American company or project that either creates or maintains at least 10 full-time jobs.
